Mick - you can get a VERY functional 1x30 belt sander at Harbor Freight for about 40 bucks. You will spend more on the belts than you do the sander. A lot of people do a lot of sharpening/grinding/polishing on those cheap harbor freight sanders - including me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
wow! just got on that was exactly what i was gonna say mustard. As a matter of fact ive got a 1x30 from harbor freight i started on and its a pretty good grinder. I've done quit a few blades on it,but im ready to step up to something bigger cuz its just not powerful enuf to do the gigger blades and it takes longer than it should to do the smaller ones. It really was not built for blade making uses though, but it does work. I think it was more intended for woodworking purposes, but for 35 dollars ya cant go wrong. I highly recomend buying one, As far as what blades would i thin the edge on goes only the bigger/thicker ones like the dog father.
