But what if I use my knife but do not ab-use it? I mean isn't it possible to use such a tough knife without actually causing physical symptoms to appear in it's lovely facade?

The point is to show working knives, and to exalt the remarkable ability of these things to just keep going. Scrapyard knives do not come into existence expecting an easy life!
Besides, any knife in use will show
signs of use. Though it will take longer to accrue a worthy set of scars if treated like a more ordinary knife. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
