I just read almost every post in this thread. You guys have some great ideas! With a forum like this, SY doesn't even need a R&D or design staff!
What I am hoping for is something cheap like a Dumpster Mutt for $69. LOL!
At first I thought the machete idea would be cool but the Ontario machetes are so darn good and they are like $25. It really is hard to beat them.
The Golok or Barong is a great idea. There are not many Goloks out there and it is a useful design for an outdoor knife. Got to keep the weight down if you want people to actually carry and use it however. Lets face it, when most of us go hiking, we take the lightest knife that will do the job. I have a cut down Ontario machete that I carry. It was a 18" but is now has about a 13" blade in a sheepsfoot design. It cuts and chops almost like the 18" but fits in my pack and can be used as a knife when needed.
What I really want is something between 5-7" blade without that nasty crinkle coat on the blade. Something full flat ground and not too thick or heavy.
