I don't have a Yard Hook, but I used to own the Swamp Rat equivalent - the mini mojo.
My main complaint was that it felt very clunky in hand, largely due to a too-heavy handle. The Yard hook, having a hidden tang and res-c handle, should fix that problem nicely.
Recurves are awesome for slashing and slicing, since they force material into the cutting edge. The mojo was surprisingly effective at small machete-like tasks, like brush slashing, due to its recurve. Not much of a chopper, but you knew that already just by looking at it.
