I have a wooden Tanto now but have ordered a couple of trainers from keen edge knives. they are aluminum with para cord handles. I'm thinking the best would be an Un sharpened, dull pointed, non heat treated(lower cost) version of my favorite Scrap Yard would be the coolist. They would be easy to introduce along side the regular knives. Same handle, simular weights, same sheath, etc.
Aluminum bar stock is relatively easy to come by. Even if you don't have a jig saw, you could cut aluminum using a hacksaw. A file and/or some sandpaper and there you have it. Drilling through aluminum is easy. I would encourage you to make your own and experiment. It's also a great excuse to buy tools, not that I need an excuse to buy tools or anything... Just saying....
