US Army late 80s early 90s
I was technically 11B1P but spent most of my time in the barn.
I was stationed in Ft. Myer, Va. In The Old Guard working on horseback in Arlington cemetary. All the time Uncle Sam spent teaching me how to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft really paid off whe I started to get thrown by those barn sour nags.
The work sometimes sucked and the horses weren't always cooperative
BUT and this is a huge BUT, the Job was the most humbling honor I have ever had bestowed on me. To escort the fallen to their final resting place not only for the familys sake
but mostly for the sake of the guy you are carrying. It was about respect and honor for his sacrifice. It's a life changing experience and I'm proud to have done it.
