The revolver would be for home defense and for carry. She is applying for her CWP.

I have various other firearms that can be used for home defense (remington 870, AR platform, other revolvers and so on). But, I wanted to start with a simple firearm and add layers as time progresses. I want her to be able to know one gun well. Much (not all) of the philosophies of home defense should transfer well to the other firearms when the time comes.

That's a good way to start her off, I agree. That way if muscle memory (if there is such a thing) fails her with a rifle or shotgun, she'll have the fallback of knowing one weapon well, even if in some situations it might be less than ideal. I'd rather have a .22 that I can shoot quickly and accurately than an 8 gauge shotgun that I can't handle well any day.
