Hey Jim, I like your new Avatar! I was a member of that Wing at Pope AFB! You ever seen the C130's with that nose treatment?
And as a bit of aviation history, the A10 Warthog is the only airplane the U.S. has where the nose gear is NOT in the center-line of the aircraft. It is offset to one side to make room for the barrels of the 30mm Cannon.
Thanks. I haven't seen a C130 in shark warpaint, although with Ft Knox in the area, it's not unusual to see plain green C130s fly over. A10s are a personal favorite of mine and I was unhappy to hear they were scheduled for retirement. They had a high percentage of tank kills in the Persian gulf, and while Apaches and F16s can do close air support, there's nothing else quite like "the last of the gunfighters". They pack a huge punch with that big 30mm GAU-8 and have plenty of under-wing hardpoints; they can also take a lot of punishment and still make it home compared to other aircraft. A10s don't do tricks at the "Thunder over Louisville" airshow, but I always look forward to seeing them.
