You know, PtB's idea actually sounds to me like a rock solid idea. Having a steel blade catch lug hidden within the hilt of a Dereg handle, to reenforce it against cuts when employed as a fighter. I don't doubt that RES-C can stand up to a beating, but being used more than a few times to counter another sharp blade, it would have to give sometime.
