Why are people chopping so close to the handle that a choil will mess them up?
If I'm gonna chop the sweet spot is center or towards the tip, not by the handle.

I don't think anyone is concerned about a choil when chopping. At least, that is my own thought.
The choil gets in the way when you decide to use the knife for tasks other than chopping. The choil is a burden when: swinging at vines / loose objects, doing close work, cutting boxes, netting, wedding cakes, steaks, etc. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
