I've had black, muddy, and sage. None is the worse for wear. I imagine the lighter might show dirt more (my sage muk stays in the kitchen so not much dirt per se, just lots of blood), but Res C seems to clean up pretty good. Besides, it's a knife and meant to be used and get a little dirty
