Pit, as you are prone to "Walk about" with just one small blade a lot of times, I personally think the 311 would work out quite well for you. Yes, it's about .185 inch thick and has a longer handle than most "Factory" knifes this size. But that lends itself to being used for MANY tasks, tasks that a smaller handle just may not allow to well. I don't think you could destroy, or even cripple this blade. And yes you could thin it out some behind the edge.
I at first thought it was way to thick for regular mundane tasks, slicing lunch meat, spreading mayonnaise and such, but it does do that and so much more. And best thing is if you didn't like it after giving it a go, you could always sell it to another countryman. As the commercial used to say, "Try it, you'll like it". (Maybe)
