The modular sleep system is GREAT, it is just
too heavy and bulky if you are packing it. I ahve two full sets and love them, one lives in my truck and the most used bag(s) I own. I have a couple of better options if I need to carry my home on my back for any great distance.

I have one of those modular set-ups. It's great.........and bulky as Andy said.

Whatever you end up getting make sure it has big heavy duty zippers.

I typically only use the bivy with the lightweight bag or a ranger blanket.

Well, in order to recommed a good sleepingbag, it would help, if you told us, in which environment you would be using the sleeping bag.

Tempered or cold weather?
Are you sleeping in a tent or bivy bag under a tarp?
Wet surroundings or dry?
Is weight an issue?

There is a great difference in what to recommend, depending on the environment.

I have 3 bags, which I rotate from season to season. All three are Synthetic Fibre sleeping bags.
I prefer Syntetic Fibre to Down, since such one will provide warmth, even when wet.

This one for cold weather. Gonna take this on my autum trip the polar circle in Sweden:

This one for summer and early autum here in Denmark

This one for trips down south, or hot days here in DK:

Häglöfs Euro Lite.

Can't find a picture of it...

I believe Carinthia made the Danish Military issue bags (or was it Dutch ?) I have one that looks for all intents and opurposes life the Defense 4, just without the branding. Got it for a song from a mate who swapped it for something else while on deployment OS.
