Where can I buy a HR or a howler? Are they both sr101? If I get one from here, are they as strong as swamprat?
As soon as I get some good info I'll buy. I've been lurking on the swamprat forums for a while, but now I have the money, and I'd rather save on the recycled knives if they are as good.
Thanks, Matt

Welcom to the Yard!
Dan uses SR77. I don't have any Swamp Rats - just Scrapyard and Busse - so I don't have any input on SR101. Hopefully Dan will be making a Howler eventually, but none of us other than Dan know when that is going to happen for sure. I suggest hanging around this forum and seeing what happens. You can't beat the price for the performance that Scrapyard offers. I'm sure that a smaller blade is in the works though. Again, welcome.

If you want a howler then check out the swamp company store. I think they still have a couple of the HRLM (micarta handle) left. If you are looking for ResC then check BF, older rats pop up all the time, new and used and be prepared to pay.
Last, wait for the Howling Dog, once they've decided on the choil it should become available in 4-6 weeks (busse speak, meaning maybe this year).

Keep up the good work. Matt

Glad you like the forum - good to have you here. You might edit to "F@#$%$ or something, as "Trashcan" will probably razz you about the language. I cuss in just about every sentence, so I'm not offended, but I thought I'd give you the heads up.
I'm sure that you'll find that there is a 3-5" blade in the new Scrapyard future though. You just missed the Dumpster Mutt its about 4.5 inches or so. Anyways, be sure and stay a while!

I just checked and found the dumpster mutt not available. but thats the kinda knife I want. Welcome knight. I have Swamp Rat Howlers and Bandicoots, SR101 is an awesome steel. My Bandicoot is the sharpest blade I have. I waited many many months for the Swamp Rat Howling Rat to be released, it was worth it. The Scrap Yard release will be well worth it as well.

Is it even confirmed if their using SR77? Or will they be switching it to a smaller-knife freindly steel (less toughness more edge retention)?
(I hope they keep the small choil like pictured) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Howdy and Welcome to the Scrap Yard Dingo 91 ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> A Yard version of a Howling Rat would be interesting, especially if the handle was larger. I traded off my original Swamp Rat Howler for a Camp Tramp a couple of years ago - good trade! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Tom
