I started to look and read about hawks a lot more the last month or so since getting my Winkler Belt Knife and have been real impressed with what tactical hawks care capable of.
So here we have a new addition- the RMJ Shrike S13-

With a little chopping- my tried and true BR gets through this limb in 6.

The SOG Fast Hawk took 9.

And the RMJ...2!!! What??!!!

That was really a fluke- with more chopping it was more on par with the BR. Although, did depend on the wood. I got into a knotty section and the RMJ struggled.

This is mostly due to the geometry of the grind I imagine. This isn't a wood axe anyhoo and I don't expect it to be. I decided to get this hawk as a piece of kit with very different capabilities.
Check this out...

That was pretty dang easy. Per the package, the lock was rated at 4,000 lbs ct resistance and 2,000 lbs pry resistance! I don't know if it's true, but the spike and rotation took care of it! I'm not a big guy by any stretch...about 5'10" 165 lbs and fairly fit. Per RMJ, they can go through chains if the lock is too powerful, but I couldn't get through this 1/4" chain.
I posted this link in the other chop off...but check it out. Especially the parts on what it can do for entering a car/truck or disabling the tires.

Comes with a glass breaker in the pommel too..

These pics are poor too- but it's capable of dealing out brutal blows...the gash it left was huge...
The spike is just wicked.
I think a lot of time in the woods and less about some kit for urban settings. For being a little over a pound, this hawk brings utility in areas I've thought little about- breaching a door/building, opening cars, taking care of locks and barriers.
Think it's a nice compliment to some other tools I have. I would like to check the weight though...per RMJ and SOG, the weight difference in these two hawks is supposed to be 4 ounces- I don't believe it though. The RMJ has much more heft and when you look at all that steel you can see why.
I'll chime in more as this gets played with more.
