And I got this AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer/Illuminator/Aiming Light thingy. Yeah, I'm pretty much Rambo now. I'm tacti-cool. Just don't point it at any aircraft!

IMTV, X-SAPI, FILBE, the military continues with the proud tradition of acronyms.
Back when I was doing some satellite communication development while in the Air Force I proposed my own acronym for a system I developed. The "PAIDS MO-FO". The "P" was the first initial on my last name; the "A" was for "Automated"; the "ID" was for "Identification"; and the "S" was for "System". "MO" was for "Mobile Operations" and "FO" was for "Fixed Operations".
The loved and adopted the concept but firmly rejected the acronym.

Hehe, Mastiff, when I was stationed in Omaha (offutt) I wrote a manual that was adopted by SAC. The last three words were in latin and said: Illigitimi Non carbarundum (or something like that) I was told it basically means Don't let the Bas****s get you down. It made it into the manual.

Skunk, I also did some time at Offutt. I never quite learned to properly appreciate the sweet perfume of the rendering plant when the wind was just right.
Were you there when the Brits pulled their Vulcans back home for the junk yard? Saw the bomber they left for the museum do an inverted flyby over the runway, pretty impressive.

Mastiff, I was at Offutt from April '82 until Aug or Sept of '87. I was in charge of the airshow ground portion one year when the B-1's came in (first ones off the line) and all broke! Our Shop chief (I worked Airfield management/Base Ops) was so mad at me. He had just moved down from Sac HQ and I had done this at other bases so our OIC put me in charge of ground operations and told the Chief to follow me around. Did I mention I was a Ssgt waiting to put on Tsgt and he was a Cmsgt?

Oh and I don't remember about the Vulcan(S), but I WAS there then the Commanding General of SAC ORDERED a KC135 to go inverted and the entire crew was killed because of his stupidity (he was told it couldn't be done for an airshow). This was of course a "Practice session", not in the actual show.
