To be completely honest. (I know you aren't used to government employees doing that, so I'll give you a second to recover)

One of the buckles did break. I bought a replacement for about a dollar at a local outdoors/tent repair shop. A bit of bonded nylon thread and a heavy needle and I'm back in action even if half the buckle is black now. It is the buckle on the compression strap across the front of the pack.

The buckles used by Maxped are Duraflex and are usually pretty tough. I even picked a Duraflex as a replacement since I am confident in them. I am just extremely rough on packs when i am in the field.

Well, I ordered the Maxped Condor II in Kaki. It should be here around the middle of next week. Then to start loading it up and strappin on the extras. For a little bit, hopefully just a month, it will be wearing two USGI canteens with the nesting canteen cup in each holder. PLUS I've got a couple smaller pouches to attach to the straps or somewhere else on the body of the pack, I haven't decided yet.

I also want to get a tarp of some kind, been looking at these.

Or the 9x9 model

OK, HOPEFULLY my pack will be here Wednesday or Thursday. Here is a list I've made up of what it's gonna contain (or would like for it to contain). Please feel free to add anything you think I've forgot.

1. Water (2 USGI quart canteens/W cups) Eventually 2 40oz bottles and a 3 lit bladder.
2. 7 strand flexible plastic coated wire (30 ft spool)
3. Emergency candle in a round (2X1 inch tin)
4. Knives. I'm thinking about one of my swamp wardens, along with a larger fixed blade and Lansky carbide/diamond sharpener. And I am thinking about tossing in my Mora "Light my Fire" knife with the built in Ferro rod in the bottom for a "Just in case". **
5. P51 can opener (also a p38)
6. Fire Kit(wetfire and DT's fire kit W/ferro rod and magnesium rod)
6. FAK including a CAT
7. 2 all weather emergency blankets W built in hood and hand pockets
8. Ponchos (eventually when I can find them!) to include liners depending on weather conditions/time of the year.
9. 550 cord
10. "Survival" whistle
11. Gloves
12. AA LED flashlight PLUS my headlamp and spare batteries http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-HL2O-Ozark-Trail-LED-Flashlight-Headlamp-220-Lumens/35762496 )
13. IF I HAVE ROOM, a USGI WWII 2 section mess kit, the oblong one with spoon, and knife stowed inside.

Eventually a tarp I think. http://www.austinkayak.com/products/4783/Kelty-Noahs-Tarp-9-Shelter-9-x-9.html

** I'm thinking about the 911 or my Tali-Whacker for the larger knife, strapped to the outside of the pack. The Tali is the only reasonable thickness I have in the 7 inch range. Man I should have gotten a 711. frown That would be the prefect knife for this setup.

I'll see how everything fits and how it feels and go from there.

Well, I see can openers, mess kit and utensils but no food. Carrying enough canned food will bulk up the pack and make it very heavy. There is always Ramen and I have been trying out some soups and assorted prepared food in pouches or plastic containers that may be good. They also have water included so none of your drinking water needs to be used for cooking. Can you strap the blankets, ponchos, FAK and tarp to the outside of the pack to save some room in the interior?
Also, if you are intending to carry all that stuff and more, I would also suggest you pack along a defibrillator. grin

Haha, snacks of some kind will be included. It's not a long term pack, just a day hike pack or SMALL GHB. I don't plan on having all that stuff in it, just makin a list and checking it twice. wink

So, are you going to use it as a day pack for two people with the possibility you may be forced to overnight?

Just a day pack. I will have a couple items in there for a "Can't get outta here till daylight" items, but that isn't really one of the purposes, just an in case type thing. Plus I'll have other things in the truck.

I want to "Be prepared" but not to the point of needing a full out GHB or BOB.
