One of the more useful and used items I always carry is the bandana. I'm not talking about a little hankie but a full sized manly-man bandana. I usually wear it around my neck for easy access.

I "borrowed" mine from a Navy med kit on a Troop Carrier many years ago and still use it today. It's a triagular OD green piece of cotton and measures something like 3 1/2 to 4 foot long and maybe 3 feet wide.

I've used it from it's intended purpose as a arm sling, to cleaning my weapon, sweat band, head cover (or Do-Rag), dust mask, wash cloth, towel, and even a belt.

Maybe you should just stay home. Turn on the AC and sip some sweet tea.

Mastiff, I DO have a "Bandana" or two. PLUS I have a Shemagh under the top strap on the pack.

Sounds good to me, but it should be sugar free.

Anyone use the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack
It looks a little small to me but looking for input from anyone that has used it for a day pack

Bill, I have the 511 push pack and it is VERY close to the same size (I'll try and find a link to what I posted about mine quite some time back). You can pack a 1 lit water bottle, and pretty much anything you would need on a good weather day pack. Actually with my push you can carry two water bottles and still have room for a lot of stuff. The main compartment would probably hold AT LEAST 4 boxes (or more) of 12ga shells, maybe even 6. I wouldn't feel under packed using it for a day bag at all, but ONLY in good weather where other items would be needed. You could even pack a meal and a small fold up stove of some sort (natural fueled) pretty easily.

That's a swamp warden attached to the pack and a 25 ounce bottle in the pouch on the left. You could also put a bottle in the pouch on the right if you wanted to.

Yes, this thread was started in 2014, but since I am looking for another edc/SHORT hiking bag I decided to resurrect it.

As I have indicated elsewhere I have a Maxped Condor II. I have it set up as a GHB and personally I feel it fits this role (for me) quite well. I am hardly ever more than 50 miles away from home and the contents of this bag will allow me to travel that distance. No, it will not allow me a bark-o-lounger or a soft foam mattress to rest my weary bones, but it will give me a lot better chance of getting to where I can.

I am seriously considering several maxped packs ranging from 8 liter (a gearslinger), Or two actual packs that measure out at 14.25 and 15 liters respectively.

Now bear in mind this would be for TWO people most of the time, so I am thinking that the Gear Slinger might be to small. I would be carrying a SMALL set of first aid supplies, perhaps a couple snacks and at least one 40oz water bottle. IF I had room I would also include an all weather space blanket and a set of gloves and some paracord. MINIMAL items to cover no more (unless it DID go south) than probably 4 hours.

It seems made some incorrect statements in the above post. I meant to say I wanted something SMALLER than my Condor II pack for an edc/half day hiker.

I've settled on the Maxpedition Gearslinger Malaga. I've picked the Foliage color as my pick for year around functionality. It's an 11.5 liter bag with the strap in the middle thereby allowing you to carry it draped over either shoulder versus being a right or left shoulder carry.

I've also got some other things in works, we'll see how they pan out.

I've put my bid in on a Maxpedition Malaga (And Maxped's CCW holster for a new edc and or POSSIBLE GHB (we will see what I can get in it). Now all I need to figure out is what handgun to keep in it. I am seriously thinking about my Glock 17 with one possibly two spare mags.

The Malaga is about half the size of my Condor II and I am hoping that it will be just the right size for an edc/Possible GHB with more emphasis on the edc/half day hike bag. The specs list the Malaga at 700ci/11.5lit.

I picked the Malaga because the strap is mounted in the middle of the bag, not to one side. This will allow it to be more easily carried across either shoulder.

HOPEFULLY I can fit one of my All Weather Space Blankets in it and my WWII mess kit and maybe even one of my 40oz water bottles and some other items. I could always put the water bottle on the outside. I will have to experiment with it to see what I can come up with as far as necessary items. IF it doesn't work as a GHB I can always keep my condor II for that purpose and use the Malaga as an edc/half day bag.
