ah, that's a bummer. Well, if you go the route of an MRD, the Burris Fastfire (all three series of them) only run about 300$ max from what I've seen. They're also tough as nails, from what I've heard. I'm sure there are options out there that suit a budget and will still give you the performance you need.

Compared a leupold mk4 3.5-10 to the vortex viper pst 2.5-10-32 FFp.

While the leopuld had better glass it was a sfp model with no illumination. It was $1200 and heavy as a brick compared to the vortex.

I'm thinking the vortex will get the nod when the time comes.

I'm leaning towards a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 going on the SCAR at some point.

The whole FFP thing sounds and looked cool but I don't think it's something I'd really care about at lower magnifications anyways. But I like the MRAD reticle and the illumination. 2.5 is would be fine for the short hunting distances I'd be looking at and 10x would be made than enough to play around with.

So I ended up deciding that the Vortex Viper 2-7x32 (not a PST) belongs on the SCAR. Just too perfect of a fit. So I ended up getting a really good deal on a 1" Warne RAMP mount. Just stuck it on there to look at it. It's good to go.

But here's a real kicker... Running some errands for my aunt today I end up in a shop looking at something that I almost didn't even touch. But I figured I would ask about it and take a look through it. Crazy! So I ask the guy and he gave me a price that I couldn't believe. I'm talking about a NIB Swarovski Z6 2.5-15x56...

Yup...

Please don't ask me how I went from a Mueller to a Swarovski in just over 2 months. I have a $8 NCStar sitting on the table I thought wasn't all that bad. So yes, I'm way out of my league with this one. But, eh... We will just have to see how this plays out. Lol...

lol, look at the bright side, Lazi, the optic STILL didn't cost more than the rifle...

so you're not violating any guidelines laugh

lol, I was always told never to buy an optic that cost more than the rifle it was being mounted on, because the rifle probably couldn't perform up there with the optic. Nowadays, with almost every factory rifle being guaranteed around 1 MOA, that guideline doesn't really apply anymore though. I wouldn't hesitate to mount a CounterSniper optic on my M14, or a Nightforce on a bone stock R700.

Now, mounting one of those optics on an AK... probably not gonna happen.

I'm liking my Vortex on the SCAR. It's the right size, right magnification, and I won't be crying if I ding it up since it's not worth more than my car. If the recoil beats it up I'm hoping that the Vortex warranty that I hear so much about has me covered. With the Warne mount things are nice and simple but still enough "tacticool" to do the SCAR justice.

I'm actually thinking about buying a rifle to go with the optic for the Swarvorski. I've gone around and around about whether or not I should get a CZ UHR but it's always come down to what scope would I put on it. I didn't expect to get into any of the high end scopes any time soon and I'm still hunting in the brush and woods so an investment into long range shooting wasn't much of a priority. Most of that stuff I considered out of my league. But the stars may align and I think this is the perfect scope for that sort of rifle.

I also haven't ruled out just trading the Swarovski for something I would be willing to put on the SCAR. Its crossed my mind to get a Nightforce or USO and just swap out the Vortex from time to time. I would like to play with some of the cool reticles and illumination and stuff. But really I think the Vortex I already have will do just fine on there. There will also be another cool scope around so they won't be hard to come by. I doubt I'd bump into another Swarovski and not a top of the line one that I can afford. So I'm leaning towards something I can call the long range hunting set-up.

Is the scar 7.62x51? If so I would think about the Mossberg mvp in 7.62x51 I have the atr and it is a tack driver.
