Hey everyone. I haven't been around for a while for a few reasons. One of which is the fact that I no longer have an income and I don't want to see Scrapyard goodness that I won't be able to get my grubby paws on frown

Anyway, I sometimes feel we don't talk about using the knives enough, so I wanted to share what I got up to this week. I was doing some gardening and decided that I needed to put a net fence around my fruit bushes (the cats have been using the area as a toilet for a while and it's been really annoying me!). I had the netting but needed some stakes to support it. Looking around the garden and garage I found spare bits of timber, some worked, some from Christmas trees and the tree we had in the front garden that we had chopped down. Faced with a wood-processing task I went to the knife box and looked at what to use: Ontario Spec Plus? ESEE? Becker? Nah, I think I'll go for the Mud Mutt!

I've always liked the Mudder handles since the 411; it feels so right. In use they didn't disappoint: stripping bark, removing minor limbs and making points created a little hot spot, but no blisters and was very comfortable for minor chopping. The steel was fantastically effective and wood was turned easily into fence stakes (none were of a size to be fence posts).

All in all I was really impressed with the Mud Mutt, not surprised, but happily impressed wink. The thin steel really helped. I ended up carrying her in a pocket (I have the leather sheath) and found her not too heavy, but tough enough to do the job.

Sorry I've no pictures (but it really did happen!). Thanks Dan!

Sorry to hear about your tough times Dan. Hopefully it won't get you permanently down. Great to hear about a mundane task being fulfilled by one of Dan's wares, a story that hopefully will be carried on.

Patty and I were out at Mingo one day this week after a "Blow" the night before. Along one point a tree had blown down across the road wedging itself into another on the other side of the road. It wasn't low enough to impede traffic but the smaller limbs and leaves made it almost impossible to get through. SO out came the 911 and 10 minutes later there was a "Tunnel" through the branches large enough for our truck to pass. I called it good enough and we continued on our journey. THIS is the reason I carry the 911 and sometimes the 1311 every time we go there.

Oh, haha, I've used the mud mutt a couple times on smaller limbs on trees around the house, getting them ready for the burn pile. The slender blade and the added inch makes slicing and chopping on the finger thick limbs a breeze.

C/B, I hope things improve for you. wink

I usually carry my newer Tali-Whacker, and have been using it in the garden for weed-control. Light enough to not notice, but definitely up to the task. smile

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

The 911 and 1311 are great for the big work aren't they? I didn't want to use them for a smaller task. I did have to cut up a couple of bits, but used a saw rather than a chopper (variety is the spice of life!). My skills aren't great using big knives for fine tasks (I know, I need to practice) so I wanted to use something with more dexterity...and the Mud Mutt delivered!

My go to knife is often the RMD, I just love how it feels in the hand. The Mud Mutt may start over-taking though: she's lighter and thinner, and in not sure that she'll be any less robust.

I use to enjoy my 911 more then anything else until i got a regulator a few weeks ago. Nothing comes close to the regulators handle.

I agree with Tom. Personally I thing the Regulator handle would be best on a LARGE blade.
