Hi all, been here for a while but first post. If all goes well I just got dibs on a 1311 in the secondary market, it's taken a while! I have an 1111 and 411 currently and think they pair up like champs- I love the 411 handle!
My question is now that the "shiny oooo purty!" has worn off how people feel about the 1311 vs 1111? The undergrowth is very thick in the woods around here but the available wood is also generally pretty tough.. dried elm is a world class PITA sometimes. The 1111 destroys hardwoods but it seems like the 1311 might do just as well at that and do better in the brush clearing department with the lighter weight and longer reach.

Grog...Howdy and Welcome to the Scrap Yard! I have both knives, and they are both great. If I HAD to choose only one, I would go with the 13-11; thinner but longer blade makes a great chopper. Tom

Thanks Klink! A welcome from JYD 1, woo!
I really like the big chopper little slicer combo, the 411 has a Mashed Cat Kydex rig, I'm thinking about ordering similar pants for the 1311 and seeing if the spacing can mate up for the 411 to be attached. It'll be a bulky package but I plan on mounting the 1311 to a pack so it's not such an issue.
Are you in the Ozarks area of Missouri? Beautiful country down there.

I'm in the S/W part of the state; mid-way between Joplin and Springfield, and the same distance North. I love it here!

I vaguely remember a week in Springfield for a buddy's wedding. We did get south of town for an overnighter at his father in law's cabin, it was very striking country. I love it here but the value of farmland has made every square inch of farmable land premium property.

Sorry I can not help with your question, I have neither blade. Tom is a wise man who knows his knives. I would trust what he says. Welcome to the Yard!

Thank you both for the welcome also. Funds sent way too early this morning, a little closer to some 1311 goodness!

Welcome to the Yard. Never have had a 1111 but had a B11 (Busse Basic 11) which is similar in size and width of the 1111 but made with INFI . I loved the B11 great chopper and could even do some fine work with it but when I got my 1311 (FDM, MOAD) I promptly sold the B11 and never regretted it. The 1311 is an awesome quick and power big blade.
You should love it!

Welcome Grog! Sounds like you MIGHT have been to the bowl a few times!
Yeah Tom is old and set in his ways but he does do good on his knife recommendations. I've got a 1311 myself and it is wonderful! But I don't use it that much. For our kind of roaming around I keep the 911 in the truck. Works great!
But If I was gonna go after grasses or vines/brambles and such, the 1311 with the extra reach and lightness = faster swing would be the way to go.
