The trick is to buy two! One to wail on and one to caress! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I don't know if the DM excells at anything at all except being the toughest little knife I have ever seen. A DF chops better. A HRLM would probably skin and slice better. Wasn't the knife designed for the military? You could pry open a door with it, stab a terrorist, open an ammo can, clean the blade and use it for a steak knife. It would not be a good cheese knife, like the SS, though. In my mind, that makes it a multi-purpose combat/utility knife.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Yea, based on price this was the one that I finally got two of. Value for the money is outstanding on the DM. I'm workin' it.

The DM is a tough little bugger. While its not a chopper by definition its heft gives it some oopmh when chopping, at least more than other knives in that size. It's plenty thick to pry just about anything open that it needs to. Batonning is about as good as any other knife, though its size will limit the diameter of branches it can handle.

The size of te DM is its biggest quality in my opinion. It's not to big, nor is it too small. Bigger will chop better, smaller will excel at skinning. However, I've found that if its a pain in the butt to take with you then you'll leave it behind. The Dumpster Mutt's nicest feature is its ability to travel well and not be a pain in the butt to pack.

Perhaps the biggest negative with the knife is its smallish handle. If you have big paws then it might be a negative for you. However, that hasn't been the case with me.
