I USED to have the perfect knife for you, but I got rid of it. I think last year.

If I remember, 8.5 inch blade, 1/4 inch thick Aus 8 convex ground. I had the black leather sheath.

It was the original release of the SOG Tigershark I bought sometime I think in the early 80's.

There are crazy good deals on the Becker 15 now...I love that knife!

Heard the big brother 5 is getting discontinued too.

Becker 15 seems a little thin to be an all-purpose blade.

I'm suggesting to him the Junglas, the ESEE 6, the RMD, or look for a deal on a Taliwhacker.

Interesting. I assumed he was looking for a 7" blade since the Ka-Bar was a serious contender for a brief moment.

I've beat on mine like I'm mad at it and it's shrugged off abuse. Pushed the tip hard too and it managed fine. It is too light to chop with, but that's fine.

I'm impressed with the ESEE 6 too...great all around blade.

I think 7-9 is ideal, but 6" might work as would an RMD (IMO). He's not quite sure what the purpose is, making it hard to guide his choice. He wants a fighter that chops and batons well and shoots rainbows and pixey dust out of it's pommel...

I'm sticking with my BK-7 recommendation. Condor also has some good options with micarta scales.

So it sounds like you need more than ONE knife to gift him, all for under 100$? I think we know where he gets the "wanting his cake and eating it too" from wink

I think Randy has a good Contender, SOG has a few knives I wouldn't hesitate to beat on, had I not found the Yard first smile

He's coming to that realization that the best fighting knife won't be the best chopping ones....unless I find the Golden Ticket in my next Wonka Bar and get a free BWM...in which case the kid is still on his own to find a blade cause the BWM would be MINE grin

The Condor Moonshiner (wooden handle) or Moonstalker (Micarta Handle) might make him happy. Only runs between $50.00--$60.00, and should address what he is looking for. wink

I have a Moonshiner myself. grin
