Sadly, you got that right! In fact, at one store I was told that it is considered a "terrorist round"!

Wow. And a bunch of coalition forces use it, and the Iraqi Police that we're training use it... and my AR-15 uses it...

at first i was gonna say something like.. the gun store lackey who said that is just ignorant.

but then i realized.. some high party officials at BATF prolly feel the same way!

I like the 7.62 X 39. My Yugoslavian AK-47 is the only rifle I have in that caliber. I have four rifles in 5.56 mm. The ammo is easy to come by. I much prefer the 7.62x39 as it makes a bigger hole and doesn't require ear muffs to shoot. I am considering getting a RRA 6.8 SPC upper for one of my AR-15s, but I am not sure that the round has caught on. I heard that SOCOM was using it. I am sorry to hear that the 7.62x39 ammo is getting scarce. I had thought about getting an upper in that caliber. BTW, AP is Armor Piercing.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Vic - I agree with you on the 7.62x39 - it's a good round. Even my wife prefers my SKS over her Mini 14 because of the noise. Like you, I prefer the larger wound channel.

My Cheaper Than Dirt catalog has Wolf Russian 7.62x39 for $3.97 a box for either 122 gr HP or FMJ. The 154 gr SP is $4.35 per 20 rd box. Think I'll order some more. Rock and Rolla with the Ayatollah!

Wolf ammo is the best bang for the buck. It's dirty and not known for its accuracy but you usually can't beat the price and I have never had any problems running it through my guns.

I don't think I would choose it to REALLY snipe someone. I'd use their gold line to pick someone off at range with my .30-30 .
