I am pretty new to the yard as a posting member, but have hung out alot reading posts, and have come across alot of useful information. I think I made it on time to snag a Yard Hook, or Hooker as some of you call it I already own a SWKW Uncle Mojo, and I was wandering if you folks can educate me further please. The SW Mojo id 6 3/4inch long (SR 101) and the Hook being 7" long (SR77).. taking blade length + steel composition in to consideration, in that length-style of blade are both steels going to perform about the same or will one have a slight "edge" LOL over the other.

welcome speicher, glad to see your post. I have the mini mojo and the hook and I think the Hook, being thicker and having more forward weight may have a chopping advantage, while the moj is more balanced and so maybe better as a fighting knife. I would say it depends on what you will be using them for and which feels better to you for your needs.

to me, the hook is perfect for what I want it for, edc and a knife I feel comfortable using anytime. Glad you made it to the Yard and congrats on your score!

Thanks, I'm glad to be here, great place to hang out. I kind of figured that the Hook would make a better utilitarian blade, and the SW would lean a little more towards the tactical side of the spectrum.

I was doing some research on the whole SR77 vs. SR101, and what do you folks think about this assumption that I have come to...the SR77 is better suited for blades 7" and larger, and the SR101 being better suited for blades 6" and under.

I have read that the SR77 has better toughness-shock absorbance, and the SR101 will resist abrasion a little better-hold an edge a little longer. In the end they are both outstanding steels no doubt, I just tend to over think things

Welcome to the Yard, SPEICHER

I don't have a Mojo, but the Hook's an awesome piece...

I didn't know if I would like it at first, but it's quickly becoming one of my favorites...

SPEICHER,
Honestly I don't think most people would notice any difference.

For example, during a weekend of chopping.. an SR-77 Dog Father will outchop an Infi CGFBM (.25" thick model) due to the Res-C handle alone!
Ok.. over many Months of hard chopping.. the Infi user may notice an advantage in edge retention & corrosion resistance.

Andy Wayne over here has done Serious chopping with his SR-101 choppers.
I wouldn't get too hung up over any of the Busse steels.
Personally.. comfort/feel in hand, availability, & price are more important considerations to me.

I'm with Tony on that! Many of us wouldn't be able to tell the differences, sr77 does seem to have the things we need and at a cost most can afford.

You lucky ones with the Dog Fathers...I am jealous, do you think Dan will release those again?
I didnt know that a DF could out chop an INFI FBM, but with the comfort level of the RES-C over Micarta, I definately see your point there. As long as you keep the DF good and oiled the corrosion aspect shouldnt be a huge issue right?

Again thanks for the great welcome here at the yard

-Tim

SPEICHER,
you registered here quite a awhile ago! Nov 2006.. but you're right.. Dog Father sold Out in like 3-1/2 days! it was an experience that's for sure!

Well.. we know it'll be released eventually as Dog Father LE w/ satin finish.
Don't miss it! or you'll Kick yourself Later!

There will be lots of chatter near release time.. if you can't be on during the release window.. there's a bunch of gentlemen here that'll often step up to watch your back or act as proctors.. Good bunch of folks here at the Yard!
