Gary, I'm thinking in the $600.00 --- $700.00 range.

Tom, That's in AK no man's land (more than junk / less than the rifles I'd recommend). It seems quality AKs have increased dramatically in value recently. This time last year I was liquidating my Arsenal AK collection and couldn't sell brand new in the box with free spare "circle 10" mags (read $$$) for $900. The same models are in the $1200 range now.
I know of an online retailer who has Arsenal 762x39 AKs for $999. The same retailer has WASRs for $639. I would never pay that much for a WASR!
Personally, I'd save a few more dollars and would get the $999 Arsenal.

It seems now isn't the time to buy AKs. It is definitely the time to buy ARs.

I have noticed a general upward trend in cost, and more guns selling recently. I suspect this is a result of timing (more guns sell in the cold months and esp at the end of the year when everyone has bonus money) and a general concern with the upcoming election.

Greaser I have no experience with those. I've always stayed with traditional shotgun designs: Benelli M1 Super 90 / M2 Field / M2 Tactical, Remington 870 / 11-87, etc.
Is it reliable? What time of drum or mag does it use?

Is it reliable? What time of drum or mag does it use? It has been for me, I use it with low brass bird shot for clays and high brass buck for HD its never hiccuped. Internally it is a Winchester 1100. It uses 5 or 10 round stick mags although there is a company making a 23 round banana mag now. It looks ridiculous but I find myself wanting one. Lol

I watched the Arsenal SGL-21 go from $600 to $900 while trying to decide on which AK to buy. I'm not totally sure they are worth the investment after learning the way they handle the warranty I'm not in a hurry to buy another. Apparently you can buy a new gun and the warranty will already have expired. https://youtu.be/zk65H4r16gsBut so far I'm happy with my SLR-101. You don't find too many people who will knock them on quality. I was also never able to find anythhing that sold me on a better AK for my money. I'd pay the going rate for a lifetime warranty or 5 year even. But if I knew it was a 1 year (maybe) warranty I'd have let them keep it. Architect is right though. This is not the best time to be in the market for one. You are looking at $600-$700 for the exact same guns were $400-$500 five or six years ago. Instead of getting a SLR-107 like I had planned I think I'm going to get a AR15 in x39. That way I can kill two pmbirds with one stone. I can scratch my itch for a AR15 and get a rifle that's lighter than my 101. It'll me right around $500 for the AR with lifetime warranty and $1K+ for the 107 that ships out on the clock. With x39 ammo being fairly low that $500 will go a long way.

I'd be interested in trying one of the newer designed chambered in 7.62x39. For example:

I wanted one of the new Galils but I'm not like the price tag.

5.45x39? Nope... I don't even think I've seen a rifle down here other than a unconverted Saiga back when they were $300. I'm also not seeing the ammo like I used to.
I would like to shoot one. It's a nasty looking little round.
