Went home to help the folks this week and took the S6. What a great all around tool, I wish I had taken pics. I had a lot of wood cutting to do, it limbed stuff fast and was much handier than a machete. I could quickly get a few swings in and drop it back in the sheath I made while keeping the idling chainsaw in the other hand. It also chopped a few large branches quickly when the saw was off and we were splitting with go-devils and wedges. The S6 handled splitting with ease too, provided enough of the tip was exposed to be beat on through the wood.
Next up was masonry. I was resetting some walkway stones for my parents, they were over 150lbs each, I had levers under them, but a couple of times I needed that last 1/4" and was out of levers. One hand slipped the S6 under the stone, a slight jog and the job was done, try that with a Ka-Bar!
Finally a little recreation, my Dad loves to do some knife throwing. The S6 is amazing, the extra weight drives that sucker home, he loved it. Last but not least, I used the S6 to carve a wooden knife for my daughter, and cut a sheath for it too.
If I could have 1 knife, the S6 would be it. I will add, after all that, including a few trips into the dirt and hacking out some roots (had to dig out the well too), it was still just sharp enough to shave hair and had rolled about 2mm by 1mm area of the blade. I have never abused a blade like this before, it was quickly restored with a flat stone.
Badger came today, not sure if I'll keep it. I have a hard time believing it will be better at anything than the S6.

Wow man it sounds like you had a blast with your S6. That's great. When you say you cut a sheath for it, what kind of sheath did you make? Can you show us a pic of the sheath.
Rock on.

I'll try and post a pic tomorrow. Its nothing I am proud of, it was a quick and dirty way to hang the knife. I used some full grain we had laying around at work. I folded it pouch style and saddle stiched it with a rawhide loop over the handle for retention. I knew I would be working and wanted a quick and easy one handed solution. I can almost "drop" the knife in, and easily pull it out. The loop was for in between jobs.
Dan is one hell of an engineer. My Dad was really impressed with the knife. I had ordered one for him too, he will get it soon, but does not know it.

That's great. I have yet to try my luck at leather work. One of my favorite Kydex sheaths is one that is beat to heck and spray painted. It looks horrible, but I have worn it for 3 years and the rivets are split but it functions very well. Hold on to those homemade things, they mean alot to the kids when they get older.
My dad got in on the last offering and he has 2 S6's coming his way. I have not handled an S6 yet but I can guarantee that he will be pleased. The SY material rules.

The S6 cuts great, but I was amazed at the chopping ability, it must be the extra weight from the thickness with the full flat grind. Tha handle is fantastic for real world work too. It does bound a bit when throwing though, but for grip and shock absorption its the best I have used. For finer work just choke up a bit.

I am really looking forward to using my S6. I also have an SS4 coming my way. It should make a great edc for me. It will probably replace my Bandicoot, similar blade shape and all. The res-c rules, I have always been a big fan.

Can't wait to see the pix! I had a bunch of people giving me crap over at the Ranger forum when I made mention of the possibility of using a knife to "Pry" or "dig" with. Glad to see someone else who doesn't mind testing the limits of a tough, hard use knife when its needed. I have a Badger coming shortly - I just needed a good reliable cutter - but my Scrapyard knives are definately my workhorse blades. The DMs, Hook, and DF have me covered for just about any situation!
Thanks for sharing.

I would have never dreamed of prying with a knife, but the S6 is built like a brick you know what. I am starting to think of this not as a knife but an abuse loving hunk of steel with a great handle and a really sharp edge-if that makes any sense.

I hear ya. Even Justin at Ranger said that his knives will hold up to digging and prying, and people were still giving me a rash of $hiznit over the whole thing.
I would have never pried w/ knives either prior to my discovery of Ranger and Busse family blades.

If it helps you get the job done use it. I remember seeing my grandfather use his slip join Old Timer do everything from taking apart watches to pulling jammed brass out of guns. I still have that knife and carry it to this day.
