I'm not finding a the rifle I want. Very frustrating!!!
I think I'm ditching the FN TSR. In the end the rifle is too heavy to hunt and the ammo is just way too unavailable. I could live with both issues but after a few of days to think on it I had to ask myself "why bother". And I don't have a single answer much less a good answer lol...
So now I'm back to trying to find "The" rifle.

A CZ550 in .270 or .308 are the front runners.
I'm just not seeing the one I want.

The CZ Ultimate Hunting Rifle (UHR) with "...minute of angle accuracy guarantee to 600 yards." Now THAT'S my kind of shooting machine.

CZ build a nice rifle. Actions are not generally as smooth as some other brands but they are solid working arms. Have you looked at Tikka ?

Yup, the UHR has been top contender for 5-6 years. But now that I'm at this point I haven't been able to pull the trigger. At $1300 I wish I could put my hands on it before deciding. I'm thinking is more than enough rifle for what I want to do. But that price tag ...
I budgeted for the UHR but man thats still its not easy to peel that off knowing I'm adding a caliber that's fairly expensive to shoot. With the FN I knew the caliber was going to be harder to find and just as or more expensive but it's a $600 price difference.

Andy, I did look at Tikka. I thought long and hard about a stainless in .270. But it doesn't quite scratch my itch for a bit of a "tactical"range rifle. That's also my ding againt the middle CZ I posted. But with the middle CZ I figure I could change the stock and still be a couple hundred or so below the price of getting the UHR. I would also avoid adding a caliber so that would save me there.

I thought about getting a .308 FS for a while. It's actually probably the better choice for a hunting rifle for around here than any of the choices I listed. The only reason I eventually ruled out getting one is that I might never get to use some of the other rifles I have. My 527 probably would see a lot less action.
In fact, this past season was a bit rough. We had warmer weather and lots of moonlit nights. The deer were barely moving during the day. Getting close to them like the colder seasons just didn't happen. Having a .308 would've given me at least double the range I would try with the 527. I held a .243 FS at the shop this past weekend and while it was a little heavier I can't say it was any less handy than the 527.
Just thinking it through... I could probably get rid of a few get a 550 FS.
