I saved my money to buy a knife from an archery shop. Later, I took my mother and grandmother out for dinner on Mothers' Day.

I was 14 (it was 1968) and I hauled hay for a cent and a half a bale. Pick it up off the ground, stack it on a trailer, take it off the trailer and stack it in the barn. ONE guy baled at sunrise, turned the hay about noon, baled at about 2:30. They were so heavy that the string was literally under your chin and the bale was still on your feet. Anyway, I took at least some of the money from that summer ($125.00) and bought my mom a set of diamond earrings. I think they were a quarter karat. Remember I said it was 1968, things were a tad cheaper back then.

See I said I wouldn't embarrass anyone. I mean it's not like I was in the Philippines and chased a er ah well I had been in the shower and much alcohol was involved. grin I could run pretty fast back then smile

It we got a real good farmer, we would get 2 cents a bale. Man when that happened we thought we were setting in tall cotton!

My first paycheck, I took my family out to dinner
We lived in a small town and we went out for dinner only a few times per year.
