1/8 sounds about right, a golok can be thicker at the spine like maybe 3/16.

i think that if the machete is going to be to heavy then i think you just need to get stronger haha but you could always just strap it to your back and use it just like a sword but i think that something like this would be amazing to have and to use for all of your camping and bush needs

Machetes need to be tough. I think the SR77 would work as well. Thing is, you can buy a very good Tramontina machete for $6.00. Hard to beat that in performance for the price. Fanatics like me would buy a high end machete, but I don't know about most folks. But a golok with Res C handle would really rock. Heck I'd pay $10 for one outta SR101 Vic !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Personally I think that the 1311 does a pretty good job. But if you are talking about a true "chete" it would need to be longer and thinner. And from what I have heard "The Experts" say, you WANT the handle to slide through your hands.

Not necessarily less grip, just smoother so you hand can move on the handle and not be "locked" as it is when you have a really good "friction" material to hang onto. I don't really understand why "they" say that but that is what I have read. I guess maybe your hand will let the handle pivot more without relaxing your grip than it would if the handle were "grippy".
I must say I don't know that I agree with them on this but never having used a machete for any extended period of time, I don't really have any extensive background from which to speak.

Sounds like you’re talking about a snap cut. You tighten your thumb and index finger on the handle and leave your other fingers loosely grasping the handle. As you bring the knife into the material and just before the blade hits, you quickly grasp the handle with your 3 fingers. This accelerates the sweet spot of the blade into the material. I used to practice this with a khukuri.
