Vash (the gsp) is an incredible natural hunter. He flushes birds all over the place and has retrieved several perfectly live and healthy birds from the attic. His pointing is as natural to him as lifting his leg. I've never hunted though so the only working he does is for a cookie. Snatching flys and moths out of the air seems to be a hobby of his.
The new mutt is mostly to keep vash company since he doesn't have the forest to run loose in anymore, as we've moved into a more urban area. Vash grew up playing with Great danes and rottweilers and he's been looking so lonely.
On that note, I think my scrapper 6 (near new condition, gasp!) has been feeling a little lonely. The dog father and HRLM have been covering all my bases. She is still wearing her cardboard pants!
A friend of mine had a Dog like Vash and he trained it to be a flushing dog. It very different to hunt behind a flusher than a pointer, you had to be really quick on the shot since there was no set up time. They should be great company for each other
