Having just sat and watched Rambo3 can anyone tell me who made the knives for the movies ?Was it the same person for all of them or did it change with each film ?
Finally what about the new one we will have to wait a while to see it is there a new blade for that ?

I think the knifemakers were:

Rambo 1: Jimmy Lile
Rambo 2: Jimmy Lile
Rambo 3: Gil Hibben

I can confirm #3 was Gil Hibben. United Cutlery then made the knock off version of the knife. I actually have one. I have never used it. Just sits in the box.

Jimmy Lile definitely made the first one. He was from Russellville, Ar, my home town. I have a couple of his knives, only one was made by him. You can tell if it was made by him or if it was made by the shop after he died by looking at his name on the blade. If it was after, then it will have dot above the name.

He was a great knive maker and person. His widow closed the shop a few years after his death and sold the leftover stock.

Jimmy Lile was a real nice guy. I met him at a Blade show after Rambo 1. I coulda bought one or more of his survival knives, at a fraction of what they're worth now, right from him and made a mint today.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Wished I had. I always wondered why he didn't do the blade for Rambo 3...probably wasn't up to him though I'm sure.

I think I even read something somewhere where Stallone himself heard about Lile and asked him to make the knife for Rambo 1. As in they met and talked about the design and it wasn't some prop guys decision.

The interesting thing from the Blade article was Sly has a whole bag full of genuine numbered Lile knives he destroyed cutting lot trailers apart.
Lile made a knife for Rambo 3 that was not used. It was a hundred times better than the fugly Hibben abortions.
