Paypal is handy but I don't like it. It is expensive especially compared to EMT
which are only 1.50$ regardless of amount. They have a bad rep. I think they sell your personal info to those phone solicitors but I don't have proof…It is also just like paying cash so some shifty buyer can't rip you off buy claiming the package never arrived which happens so much with paypal most sellers won't ship out of the country any more.
PayPal sucks. Don’t believe me? Check the website:
PayPal SucksThey just screwed me out of $94 last week! Bastids! Ok, here’s what happened to me. I sold an iPod dock to a guy in France for $94 with shipping. After a couple weeks, he tells me he still hasn’t received it and says he’s going to file a dispute with paypal. I told him he probably didn’t wait long enough, and it’s probably being held up in customs for some reason. I told him of a previous situation several months ago with a buyer in Mexico who kept saying his items didn’t show up, then finally a couple months later he emails me that they finally showed up…slowed by customs.
I also tell this guy that my ad mentioned that I am not responsible for items after mailing, and that he entered into a legally binding contract agreeing to my terms by bidding. He files the paypal dispute, and he even says in the message to paypal that he doesn’t think it’s my fault and it’s probably a problem with his post office. Paypal emails me and says if I can’t provide them with a tracking number, then they’ll refund his money from my account! B.S. I say! I email them back explaining the terms of my auction, and that he agreed to those terms when bidding. I told them that he even said it probably wasn’t my fault! They don’t care.
I told them I’ve used eBay for 10 years and have been a paypal user from the beginning. In fact, I told them, when paypal first came out, I realized that it would revolutionize eBay payments, and I emailed eBay and suggested they buy paypal before they dominate the market and their price goes up. At that time, eBay emailed me and said thanks, but no thanks, we’re not interested in purchasing paypal. Several years later they finally took my advice. Still, paypal doesn’t care.
I say what a scam this is, as he doesn’t even need proof, all he has to do is claim he never received it. Neither of us have any proof, and I’ve been a user longer, with much more feedback, and I’m a seller (other guy wasn’t) and they’ve made a ton of money from me for 10 years in fees. Still, they don’t care and take his side.
Read some of the articles on that site and you’ll be amazed how dirty paypal is. The only reason I still use it is it’s a necessary evil. If I don’t use it, I’ll lose bids and sales. The majority of buyers use paypal, and they’re usually impatient and want items fast and will look for sellers that accept it. They don’t know how shady paypal is, so everyone uses it.
So, now I know that to protect myself from overseas charge backs and such, I have to get a tracking number for the package that can be tracked online when shipping to other countries. The bad thing is, I’m afraid it could happen again. Before this incident, I sold some S6s and HRLMs. Everyone got theirs except a guy in Russia. Now he’s emailing me that he still hasn’t received it. I’m afraid he’ll do the same thing to me that the guy in France did. If so, I’ll be out $180 that I don’t even have. I don’t have a tracking number for his package either. Before this happened I thought I was covered by my disclaimer. That USED TO BE the rules. EBay said it was a legally binding contract, and that by bidding you’re agreeing to the sellers terms. Well, not anymore.
So if you use paypal, BEWARE! Especially when dealing with people in foreign countries. I thought it was very ironic that they call it their “seller protection policy”. Sounds to me like they’re protecting the bidders, not the sellers. All they have to do is claim they never got it and they automatically believe them and will refund it from your account if you can’t prove it with a tracking number.
