It does feel very rugged and could do some light chopping.

Yes it will. When I got mine last year, I used it to chop and split wood until I wore the finish to bare metal. Here’s some outdoor pics of when I first got mine if you missed them and would like to see them: M6 pics in the yard from 8-07-06

I used the M6 on all this wood.

My M6 seems thicker than .25". Maybe its that extra extra thick gray coating <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm going to measure it this weekend and I'll post the thickness. The thickness of the scales/tang makes it feel more comfortable/more secure in the hand than the BATAC for me.

Horn Dog,
Can you give me the cutting edge length on the M6, SC6, SC6LE? Are they all the same or close?
I wrote alot more, but the system refuses to take it. Hope this works.

From where the edge starts to the tip on both the M6 and S6 is 5 1/8". I could not find my cloth tape measure to measure the length around the curve of the blade. I assume the S6LE is the same. The micarta scales on the M6 protrude further onto the ricasso on the M6 than the Res C on the S6. The side profile of the two blades is identical even though the M6 has a High saber grind and the S6 has a full flat grind.

My neighbor has both and I prefer the feel of the res C handle on the S6, but thought the M6 felt a little better balanced for my hands.

I prefer the totally neutral balance of the S6. I really like both knives, though. For me, the S6 just feels lighter and quicker. The M6 may be a better chopper because of its additional weight. I haven't tried it yet, so I am not sure. I am pretty sure that the S6 is the better value of the two.

say, what's the difference between a saber grind and a high flat grind?

I promised to measure the blade thickness of my new M6. Turns out it is almost exactly .250. I thought it looked thicker than that but I was wrong. It certainly feels very solid in the hand.

As H-D so aptly put it, the S6 seems to handle faster with a more neutral balance. My camping needs could be served just fine by the M6 tho. It's a fine knife too.
