The middle one looks interesting. With the added material from the drop point and the palm swell on the handle, I bet it would be an awesome brush chopper, like a mini-machete.

I like the Scrapper best, too. I actually held a prototype at Blade. Sweet!

The Scrapper felt great but then I like that size Res c handle best so I am not surprised. If the knife is made like the prototype though it will be thinner and lighter than you guys are expecting I think. I seem to remember that it felt lighter than the Scrapper 6 to me what do you remember Vic? Of course that is just fine to me becasue I like Slicers!

That being said the second one down with the rounded handle always looked silly to me. I should have known better about a Busse family knife. That is the BEST fitting large handle I have ever felt and I will probably buy every Swamp Rat made with one.

So the Ratweiler feels good, eh? Hmm.

I think the Scrapper 7 was .25" flat ground, but I could be wrong. It did not seem heavy. It was lighter than the Hook I bought that day, for sure.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Considering how popular the Camo Tramp is I am sure there are plans for a Scrap Tramp.

I like the look of the second one and a Scrap tramp(first one) as a user.

7 or 7 and a half inch blades seem to look the best aesthetically with the Scrapper handle and how wide the blade is.

I think that would be a wise move for SYKCO, since the Swamp doesn't do Res C handles any more. In fact, there are several popular old-style SR knives that SY could do.

we saw the camp tramp last year and it was still 130. but after they switched to micarta and the fancy colours the price went up (bigtime).
I think bossdawg knows what he's doing, sticking with res-c and keeping the price down!

I hate to bring this up, but I believe I had a couple in black and in tan at Blade West 2006 as well. Not 100% sure, though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Going to Blade West this year? This year should be KILLER! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

The most appealing one isn't pictured OR upcoming, at least not at the Swamp.

Who knows. Perhaps some day Dan will produce one in SR-77 . . .

WHY did I not do it, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> they were $130 at blade west 2005 I could have gotten several of them. and to really "twist the knife" my dad was looking at the Camp Tramp and the Battle Rat. but I said something to the effect of, "no you don't want some rubber handeled knife, get one with micarta", boy am I a smart kid <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

but to give me some comfort I did buy my gen 2 Howling Rat that day

yes you did Troy, several in tan as well. I rember it all very well Blade west 2005.

Before I got my Basic 7 I'd be screaming for the S7 (Scrap tramp.. oh yes!) at the top there.. That size with res-C is just perfection!! I believe the middle one was the 'Ratweiler' chopper? Worth buying just for the name, but it doesn't hurt that it'll be a great knife! The bottom one didn't do anything at all for me..

Price will be everything in my selection. However, if given the choice I'd choose option number three.

A 7 1/2 inch blade doesn't really excell at any one thing, imho. A blade that size isn't a chopper, it borders on being a little too small. And a blade that size borders on being too large for useful everyday cutting whether in the field, the farm, or wherever.

The choice for me doesn't come down to handle type in so much as material type. For a knife like that I'd prefer something that will take and hold an edge better that SR-77. And since I cut a lot more than I chop I'd prefer my performance to be directed more toward edge retention.

My thoughts and feelings would certainly be different is the knife were longer, or if it were shorter. However, given what it is I'd lean towards Swamp Rats version. Now if we could just figure out how much each of them cost that'll determine my final answer.

(I'd agree my DF will totally out chop my Basic 7, BUT it's too bl**dy heavy to hump up hills so my Basic 7 goes and the DF doesn't.. If you want a truck or camp knife then the DF is the one. Hijack over!!)
