Stripped my gray RatManDu today. It has a long, hideous scar, the Mark of Mandu on my NudeManDu. I did not sand it at all, just stripped it and gave it the Scotchbrite wheel. I can just imagine when the worker did it.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />"Woops, oh well, the paint will cover it".

If its ever stolen, you can use it as an "identifying mark."

Well - it looks great naked, Vic - I guess you'll just have to use the heck out of it and scar it up - then it'll blend in!

Vic,
I can't believe that you beat me, I stripped mine yesterday and I was working on the polish, mine didn't have any marks but it is not yet completely polished. I'll post it when I'm done.

By the way, I followed your tutorial.

Only the tang retains the Mark of Mandu. Used 80 grit on the flats, followed by 80 micron and blending with Scotchbrite.

Very nice work HD!
You have it all...the know how and the equipment, to produce a very nice finish.

Now that its naked, you might want to get some pants on that thing before he catches a chill <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

The RMD looks stunning in satin! Much better than the gray, which looked fine. Another fine job by the Third World Grind shop <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I have a gray M6 on the way shortly. I just sold a gray mandu because I didn't like the new gray. I might just have to follow your directions and strip the M6, it will be my first.

I prefer the gray to black. It is more like the color of steel. I have a gray M6. It is a beast. Nice hefty knife. I wonder what horrid disfigurements lurk just beneath the paint.

I like the idea of stripping an M6 especially as it has the cool hamon line under all that paint. If you are interested I can find a link to a hybrid polishing tutorial that shows you how to bring up the hamon to show it off?
It is meant for jap style swords but should work as well on the M6.
I would do it now but I have the link on my other computer.

Just sittilng here fondling my M6, looking at the the primary grind line. Or are you talking about something else?

Edit: Sorry to be so ignorant. I looked it up. That line might really look cool at that, Unsub. Now I'll have to strip it just to see.

HAMON pattern = tempered pattern
Hamon is a borderline of the areas between very hardened area and not so hardened area. It can be seen as a white line in properly polished blades. The hardened area is made by the tempering work, heating and quick quenching. And the border line is an effect of the work. (=> Actual examples of YAKI-IRE)

As I was marveling at your work Vic and drooling over the various blades that you have given the "treatment" too and I chuckled out loud.
Because I thought to myself how in the name of God does he find time to do them all like that? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
Laughing out loud a second time I realized that while Mrs Peace and Ms. Peace were out at Cheer practice for 5 hours today I spent every minuet and then another hour after they came home doing what? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Polishing my knives one at a time. Re sharpening knives that have NO business any where near a sharpener because they already push cut newspaper under their own weight they are so sharp. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />
But there was I all afternoon long doing blade things till my arthritic fingers ached from rubbing and polishing for so long. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

This is a strange sickness is it not Victor? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/loopy.gif" alt="" />

Bet you and I are NOT the only two people here who spend HOURS doing things to their blades!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

I love it!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Peace.

Nice work HD. What grade of Scotch Brite wheels do you use? I used some that were black and they left horrible scratches.

I had no idea the big scratch would be there, so I sanded the flats as best I could, starting wih 80 grit and finishing with Sctochbrite. It went faster than I thought it would. The Dog Father was much more work. Let's see your job, Bodhi. I bet it looks fine.
