That's what I'd call a neighborhood protection rifle. I like your interpretation of the scout rifle better than (God rest his soul) Col. Coopers for an East Coaster. Out West you might want a little more reach. The .44 mag is a great round regardless.

One of the neat things about a long eye relief scope is that it teaches you to shoot with both eyes open.

I love your taste in rifles Roo! Short ,handy and with far better accuracy than you would normally expect from a 16 inch barrel. That discribes your Socom and Tanker as well.

Have you seen the new Luepy scout scope that looks like just the back half of a scope? I saw one in Shooting mag and will try to find a pic online.

Nice. I have never heard of the epoxy paint on wood before.

I have a 45/70 marlin guide rifle, that i plan on 'scouting', leatherface.
Right now, it has ghost ring sites, and a huge lever ala John Wayne.
Unsub,
No, I have not seen it. When I put this together 10 years or so ago, this was the 'new' leopold scout scope at the time. It is 2 1/2 power.
burris also made a smaller scout scope, but brockman talked me into the leopold.

I've got a winchester trapper, with the 16" barrel.......something about a short lever gun, makes me smile.

When you care enough to use only the best...stick'em with a SKYCO knife.

I have a win trapper in 30-30. that gun rocks!
I carry it on my trips out to PA in the winter, quite often. Since it is so flat and short, it is easy to pack when the car is loaded up with all of our other winter crap.
