I was wondering how every body caame to the yard.
mine has been a long journey. as a young man/boy I had my first sak and a scout knife. while working on the farm I noticed how usefull the extra features on my sak were so I continued to but one when I got paid. (2.50 an hour) I had a blue classic and soon bought a camper. a couple years later on the farm multitools were popular and I got my first leatherman and gerber. I quickly became found of the leatherman and sterted collecting those. I later went out of country with super tool and swiss champ for two years. not have room for toolsin my luggage thesebecame my only tools. I put together furniture cut boards for a bed and pruned with them. After that I bought and bought multitools. I decided to sell cheap knives at the swap meet and recieved with the merchandise a free cold steel DVD. this was my introduction to performance knives. I bought a ton of cold steel, k-bar, bk&t, entrek, Bark River, kershaw... finally I read a couple survival books was interested in the khuk he used. reading about survival knives on the internet and cliff stamp I realized cold steel was not the cream of the crop. I bought an HI khuk and a valiant golok. I thought i was done. I wanted a super tough knife but mission knives were to much and cliff turned me off to fehrman ( i did but a thru hiker). I heard busse was good but that was all I knew until on the HI cantina somebody asked what is the toughest knife. at least 8 out of 10 was BUSSE. so I found my way to the yard. and what a deal compared to other high end manufacturers.
now that I am here I have learned alot. I have really appreciated the experience of all as it has helped me. I got a few assisted knives after a thread here and I don't think I will ever stop carring at least one assisted knife or automatic as they are so convenient. I have learned how to care for and prevent rust better. I have learned the benefit of having a small fixed blade as opposed to just a folder and Dog Father. now it will be a folder, Dog Father and a falkniven f1 or fehrman hiker until I get a small busse. thanks for all the experience guys. I look forward to learning more about steel, knives, and life.

I was lucky enough to move 3 doors down from Zero-Nine in May. I had a collection of knives but none as quality as busse/swamprat/scrapyard. Now I have a Mutt and a Mandu. Looking forward to maybe adding a SS4 or DF to my collection soon.

For me it was growing up using my SAK, the folder and fixed, cheap hollow handled knife my dad gave me. Then around college I went on a quest to find that perfect knife. I started with Bear MGC and even bought a Frost Cutlery Undertaker bowie (crap) which just sits under a chair collecting dust. Finally I decided to read about steel and found that carbon was the real thing and learned about rockwell as well.
I then did internet research and found Cold Steel. From there moved on to Spyderco and Benchmade for folders and around 1998 I found Busse. Got my first SHBM and kept going. I did buy a few more Cold Steels, back when they were good and from there just bought quality instead of the earlier crap. Busses came, CRKT came, Benchmade, Spyderco, Leatherman, customs, Opinal and more Busses. Finally I head about Scrap Yard from magazines and the forum and one day the Blade Mag said that the site was up. I found that it was and the rest is history. Now I can't stop! I forgot to mention my Ranger knives and Ontario RAT knives/folders.
Now it is Busse, Scrap Yard and Swamp Rat with the occasional garnish. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I was searching for a "RAT"-5 (which I bought) and ran across Swamp "Rat" and after much reading I found Scrapyard. I have alway liked Spyderco, Sog, some of some of Cold Steel's stuff and a few others. I even picked up a Chris Revees GB 7" because I couldn't buy a scrapper 6 or any of the Swamp Rats that I wanted. But then I started looking around on Bladeforums and found a SS4 and BOY things haven't been the same since. Matter fact I was tring to pick up a Merc Workx Sniper and the deal fell thru so I went for the SS4. Very happy with the SS4!

I actually stumbled onto the yard....with some help from ColdOne and Unsub. I'm sure they don't remember, though.
When you care enough to use only the best...stick'em with a SKYCO knife.

I found out from Bladeforums. I wanted a Busse, but could not believe the price was justified. After some reading, this site was mentioned. It has got to be the best value in custom knives I have found.
