Is the Street Scrapper 4 a convex grind? Just wanted to verify before I sharpen it.

Yep... it's convex, but mine won't be by tomorrow evening!

so.. besides stropping and mousepad/sandpaper.. are there other ways to sharpen while keeping the convex?

I don't know of any other ways. If you want to keep the convex grind it pays to learn the mousepad/sandpaper method. It took me about a year of practice to learn how to do it right (I am real slow sometimes) but once you get the hang of it, it works great!
Or you can just reprofile the edge and use more standard methods to sharpen it.

I can get the paper trick to work occasionally but only on a reprofiled thinned out edge. The two yard knives I've got wouldn't sharpen at all with the factory edge profile- it was just too thick... Both Lansky'd up pretty well at '25'! I think stropping would be the only cost effective way of keeping 'em convex if you want that type of edge.

I use stones so all of my knives are V edges, and I’ve not had any problems with them. So, don’t be too worried if you can’t keep a perfect convex edge.

Paul, yeah i know what you mean.. i'm not set up for stropping at all. I used a BDU-type Nylon belt to strop an old Kershaw Corral Creek II lockback to Scary RAZOR sharp in less than a minute! oh man! (iirc it's steel is either Aus6A stainless.. or 440A stainless.. can't remember!) no stropping compound.. just the belt. then I tried same thing on HRLM's sr-101.. Nothing! tried on SS4's Infi.. ha! it made by Belt dull! i may try loading it w/ compound next.. or get set up w/ a Real Strop ::grumble::

At least once you get a dog sharp it stays like it pretty well!
On mine now I just Lansky them on 20 or 25 degrees using medium grain, I don't bother using a white ceramic rod to 'steel' them as it just seems to dull the edge(!). I find just making the last few passes with the lansky very lightly 'strops' them fine.

Do you have the dog bone type of Lansky? or.. something else? I have one of those, except it’s a round ceramic rod. They’re dangerous! They need larger guards. I’ve several times been using one, and the knife slipped past the guard and cut me.

yeah that's what i was thinkin.. those dog bone types would prolly suffice for smallish blades.. even then, there's nothing really to stop the blade from going over.. ouch.

Yeah, I was using it on a pocket knife at the time. It would take a bit of patience to try and sharpen a DF with one.
