Do you fellow dawgs know or think it'll be released again in the foreseeable future?I know the LE should be about to be released rather soon, but maybe it's too much a treasure for putting it to hard work?!

It will probably be a while for the Dog Father to re-apppear again. Many more models still to debut at the Yard.

Thanks for chiming in greens,
So quite certain that it'll come again,eh?What's your take on using the upcoming LE as a workhorse?Would it be highly prone to rust if you would use it a whole day for various campstyle chores without consistently wiping the puppy dry and oil it inbetween?Maybe dumpass kinda question,I know .Just null experience yet with the 77.

Greetz,Alex

Don't worry too much about rust, as long as you wipe it down at the end of the day, rust shouldn't be a problem. An occasional drop of oil wouldn't hurt either. I personally can't wait to get my hands on the LE version.

I have a couple of hard working dogs in SR77 and I have yet to experience any rust at all on them. I wipe them down after a days work and I apply a thin coat of wax them after each sharpening and so far, they have been completely rust free.

i really like the DF and as i don't expect more production runs anytime soon I have been thinking about picking one up in the aftermarket. I want a big chopper and am looking at the DF and the RTAK II. The RTAK had a pretty good review at knifetest.com. I'm sure the DF is a much better knife, but is it worth 2x the money?

I had a RTAK II first generation (big handle). Good knife tho I bent the edge while battening it with a hammer. The RTAK II is reasonably tough it's just not designed to perform beyond all reason like the DF. In the end I sold it and several other knives and bought a Dog Father at release price.

The DF is a much better knife and yes even at 2x the price I think it's well worth every penny.

Were expecting the DFLE to be released soon
It will cost more than the coated DF at it's release however it may cost less than a secondary market coated DF.

It might be worth waiting for just a thought.

JYD#14 Do you need one, of course you do it's a knife and you like knives.....

I want my DF to be a user. Will the LE hold up as well as the coated for a user?

Yes except it may be more prone to rusting other than that it's the Same knife just with a satin finish like the Yard Keeper.

Just treat it like any other shiny carbon (non stainless) knife.

Just a thought.....All SYKCOs knives are designed to be used hard just some are more shiny than others.

The standard or "Combat Grade" Dog Fathers show up on the knife exchange fairly often for around $160 to $200. There is no reason not to use the LE version if you get one. It will be the same tough knife without the paint and have a much smoother finish. It might even cut better. Just use the same care you would with any non-stainless knife. Keep it oiled or use Tuf Cloth on it occasionally. The regular DF should be released again, but we can't say when.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
