Once again I am turning to you guys for help and advice .She who must be obeyed has made dire threats toward my current EDC pouch it's basically a black bum bag I think they are referred to as fanny packs in the USA.
I have started using this because of some unusally warm weather a jacket is not an option.Anyway all I would normally carry is a SAK (climber model), mini-maglite (during evening hours)a small first aid kit ,cell phone, warrant /atm card and about £5-00 in change and tissues (compulsory for any parent)
Any suggestions will be gratefully recieved

You have a lot of choices really. A more attractive over the shoulder or smaller belt slung bag like those offered by Maxpedition might work.

If you want to carry a lot of stuff, a cotton, or for very hot, weather, mesh vest can hold an amazing amount of stuff. You'll look like a photographer or fly fisherman, but what the heck.

I got a Cabela's Safari vest just for that. I can carry a lot of stuff comfortably and discreetly with it. Top it off with a "Bawana" hat and I'm one of America's best dressed posers.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I wear 5.11 "tactical" pants most of the time which have cargo pockets and a cell phone pouch and huge back pockets. As you can see in this pick I am relatively discrete minus the camo shirt and camo bandana having basic OD pants, black backpack, tennis shoes and a tan boonie hat (keep in mind this is the desert). Tan 5.11 stuff is even more discrete I think.

In this pic, my pockets have wallet, knife, lighter, cell phone and some other small items. My backpack has a whole lot of evil stuff (AK 47, magazins, ammo etc) in it but as you can see from the shot of my walking away, I just look like any other hiker.

Cheers Guys
I think I may go for a combination of all the ideas put forward.First purchase will be the tactical pants then the Maxpedition bag (Full auto's link was gr8).Finally the vest 'cause I really want one to keep all my junk in I don't care if the wife hates it I've given in enough by surrendering my pouch!

I use a vest daily to carry all kinds of stuff. curently, it is a black 5.11 vest. it has my house keys, store keys, wallet, money clip, flashlight, eyeglass repair kit, handiwipes, lighter, and assorted other gismos I cannot remember right now.
I like it cause it is easy to take on and off, I can wear it and yet add a bag or backpack for more stuff.

My wife is currently using a fanny pack, as her leg is broken and she is on crutches. much easier for her than a bag of any sort.

Go for one of the more fashionable small leather backpacks, they are far more acceptable in a city than hiking gear. If "she who must be obeyed" complains about a fannypack then I doubt she will accept cargo pants, camo shirts or even a fishing vest.

J33psr0ck's gear might be practical but he walks alone in the desert because everybody else is afraid of him. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

i carried the maxpedition jumbo fatboy for a long time. loved it. recently upgraded to the collosus. I think the fatboy is a little more user friendly when it comes to wearing.
