If SYKCO or any of the Busse Knife Group were to make a stainless steel knife (which is not likely), which stainless steel would you prefer?

My Endura is AUS-6 and love it, much so that is my vote (it is a stainless right?)

AUS-6 seems to work well for me, too. My SOG SEAL Pup and SEAL 2000 are made of it. It sharpens easily and seems tough and corrosion resistant.

S30V is my current pocket knife fav. The edge holding is just superb and it requires very little maintenance. In pocket knifes AUS-6/AUS-8/ATS-34 have all worked fine for me.

I have perhaps an irrational distrust of large stainless steel blades based on the bad experiences others have had. My hypothesis is that for stainless steel to hold a really good edge requires it to be hardened to the point that much toughness is lost and the knife becomes brittle. I have no scientific data to prove this, and as I said, it may just be irrational based on spurious observations. So no one should get their panties in a wad, k?

All the steels mentioned are good the list of stainless steels is long however I wonder what Stainless Steels Dan has tried there heat treating protocal on. If he did experiment I wonder what the results were?

I've had knives in both S30V and VG10 and I put them both up there as the top stainless steels. The only pocket knife in stainless I have left is S30V, Strider AR, but I want to eventually get another Al Mar SERE 2000. I was seriously impressed with its performance.

I just rotated in an old favorite a second generation Spyderco Military CPM440V. It's been a good knife over the years.

For a folder, I have been really happy with the VG10 on my spydercos. I did find that it prefers a slightly toothier finish instead of a mirror finish when sharpening though.

For large blades, as much as it isn't a true stainless, Infi has been serving me quite well despite being sweated on , rained on and used hard!
