On second thought, "Surgical Stainless" is by far the best steel of all. The guy on that late night knife show told me so. You know the show where the hosts impail themselves on swords that snap in half on set.

I missed that show. But you're right, "Surgical Stainless" must truly be the very finest stainless steel of all. Dan will have to raid a Pakistani or Chinese dumpster to find it.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Wow, that was great! What a POS! Imagine how quickly Cold One, me, or Cliff Stamp could destroy one of those swords. I wonder what that amazing demostration of crappy steel did for sales that night. Do you suppose the surgeon who worked on that injured guy used "surgical stainless"?

Economically speaking, 440C and 420HC are good if heat treated right.

My personal mid-range preference would be 154CM.

Recent favorite is INFI, although I can't aford much of it, and I know it's not truely stainless, it's stainless enough for me though...

The really sad thing is that they're probably still selling a ton of that stuff every day...

Got to wonder just how many times that's happened to the average Joe who thinks he's got the ultimate sword...

Short question regarding the three main steels used in the Busse Family of knives which came up in this thread too.
I understood always it would be more like:

INFI = super tough while rather stain resistant
SR101 = same(maybe even higher) toughness as INFI but less stain resistant
SR77 = even tougher then the other two but a bit lower edge holding capability

Somehow I had always the impression by reading in the forums(BF-forums and the others) that would be the consensus. No?
