Went out to put an edge on my 2nd DF and just couldn't stop myself.....Besides it's not like my 1st one is really gonna wear out Went with a full flat grind, thinned the edge just a little, gave it a nice but not fully sharpened false edge, and satin finished the flats. I didn't remove too much weight but she does feel faster now. Most of all it was just a fun way to dress up a real work horse [Linked Image from ourworld.cs.com]

Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds you down or polishes you, depends on what you're made of

That looks great Bill. I am hoping to have enough pennies saved up for when Dan releases the LE.

Question:

How do you do a flat grind?
Is there an industry standard technique for flat grinding?

I use a belt sander and by nature, I just always end up with a convex grind.

Sometimes I am very good with convex, but I like a nice flat grind sometimes as well. - Especially on a large knife that already has a flat grind that I just want to clean up.

My belt sander has a flat wheel on the side, but I can't seem to use it on things much larger than the radius of the wheel.

It seems I would need about a 24" - 30" wheel to get a nice flat grind - and it seems it would be better if the wheel were horizontal instead of vertical (????)

It is making me anxiously await the DFLE. Great work.

To do a flat grind you need a flat platen.
