i recently switched from the Gerber Multi-tool to the Leatherman Wave. I really like it. You can access the knife and saw blades without having to open it up, all the small tools lock in to place. and the tool has gentle lines, so it is comfortable to use in your hand. It has a small bit driver with a "flipable" phillips/stright screwdriver. they do sell accessory packs with replacement bits for different sizes/shapes of drivers.

I personally like the pliers. I do tend to use them, and in a pinch could make a very nice defensive weapon. Sure you could stab them, but what if you want to detain them? How about a nice pinch of ear with the pliers? They wouldn't be going anywhere.

Mr. Bond, waiting patiently.
Wigg,
as if to make me eat my own words the bird feeder blew over last night in a windy storm. It is about 6 1.2 feet tall with 6 Shepard's hooks coming off of it. I was wearing the China Maxxum Multi -Tool I have had in a sock drawer for the last 4 years and of course needed the pliers to open and re crimp metal links on two of the suet feeders.

Without the pliers I couldn't have done the job.

I have always wanted to use that emoticon... never had the chance before.

Anyway Wigg I see your point clearly now! Leatherman Wave is your vote. Good.
Jim seems to think the Leatherman is it too. I will wait a bit and see what chimes in. Thanks for the input.

Peace,
Dave.

P.O.P,

gerber makes a decent tool and you will hear some votes for it. but the new gerbers like the freehand and diesel and all the other models are now made in china. thay are decent quality but the only USA tool left is leatherman I believe. I own 10 or so gerber tools. I also have buck tools, schrade tools, sog tools, bear mgc tools and more. I lied, sog and bear mgc make USA tools also. my favorite is the leatherman. this is why. it has a diamond file which i find to be far more useful than a normal file. it has a fully serrated blade!! big plus. I also use the pliers to cut metal and plastic straps. works well. the gerber model tends to bend the strap but doesn't cut it. now I have a plastic strap stuck in the wire cutter and the pliers will not open. that is one of my problems with gerber. Leatherman makes a great tool. I know in my experience the only saw that is better is the sak saw.
my vote is leatherman! walmart carries the basic model for 22$. wow american made for 22$. the wave can also be purchase with an S30V, 154CM, or 420 blade steel.

Hi I've been carrying a leatherman surge for about 4 months know and I love it.I used to have a gerber tool but then a freind of mine bought a leatherman core and I was so surprised at the better lockup of the tools and the quality of the pliers i had to get a leatherman something. The Surge is like the wave but larger and it has a saw blade exchanger that you can use any t shank type saw blade which i thinks pretty neat, ,and its got some pretty good scissors.

Hey P.O.P. sorry this tooks so long, I had it all typed out and I hit the wrong keys or something, and it was gone. but I press forward in my adversity.

I got my Leatherman Super tool for Christmas '96 or '97 and really love it, came wicked sharp too. I just took it camping for several years, then when I left home to go on a mission for my church and later left for school I took my leatherman as my only "tool set", and it always worked getting the job done.

I have caried it daily for the lase 5 months of so everyday and it is handy at work and my "other work" my work is for the university's grounds department I use my leatherman all three time cutting, prying, sawing, fileing, tightening, fixing, etc. my "other job" is that my wife and I manage a girls apartment complex an older one that always needs some fixing from pulling hair out of cloged vacuums to replacing door knobs, all with my trusty leatherman.

Mine, as I said is the Supertool, it is no longer made, it's replacement in FULL-SIZE tools, the Supertool 200 has also been discontinued. The new FULL-SIZE tool, the Core, looks good but over on Bladeforums they didn't like it, at all, it has plastic where the plier's head and handels connect . but the Mid-size Wave is a winner in just about everybody's book, and for a couple bucks more you can get the the Charge with titanium or aluminum handels. I would be thrilled to answer any questions you have P.O.P., or anyone in the yard.

Oh yah It's made in the U.S. of A. (Portland Oregon to be exact)

Another vote for the Leatherman Wave. I love mine, I won't leave the house without it on my belt.

I have not had a chance to handel one in person, just seen it through the packaging at the store and read a few reviews on Bladeforums, some liked it though. It dose have the leatherman name on it, it can't be that bad.

P.O.P. I also have had the Leatherman Micra on my keys Every Single Day (execpt when traviling by airplane of course) for the last 9-10 years. It has been some of the best $15 I think I have ever spent.

WOW!!
Mike a member since April and it took a thread about a Multi-Tool to get you to open up and say hey!
Thanks for the input QMike! Glad to hear from a old member and lurker!
I like the Surge looks and price, the Wave on E-Bay seems to average sell for around $70.00 or more.I don't know why?
I guess the ONLY choice to make is the Leatherman in any form!
I will do some lurking of my own on E-Bay and snap one up at first chance.
I was working today when I had to re-do a plug for our commercial vacuum on the job. If I didn't strap on my cheapo multi tool this morning I could NOT have finished the job with that unit.

Good proof that I DO need one.

Thanks all for the input.

Jim a inspiring note of confidence for the Leatherman complete with photographic proof is a real testimony too! Thanks

Peace.
