P.O.P,
gerber makes a decent tool and you will hear some votes for it. but the new gerbers like the freehand and diesel and all the other models are now made in china. thay are decent quality but the only USA tool left is leatherman I believe. I own 10 or so gerber tools. I also have buck tools, schrade tools, sog tools, bear mgc tools and more. I lied, sog and bear mgc make USA tools also. my favorite is the leatherman. this is why. it has a diamond file which i find to be far more useful than a normal file. it has a fully serrated blade!! big plus. I also use the pliers to cut metal and plastic straps. works well. the gerber model tends to bend the strap but doesn't cut it. now I have a plastic strap stuck in the wire cutter and the pliers will not open. that is one of my problems with gerber. Leatherman makes a great tool. I know in my experience the only saw that is better is the sak saw.
my vote is leatherman! walmart carries the basic model for 22$. wow american made for 22$. the wave can also be purchase with an S30V, 154CM, or 420 blade steel.
