Can I use oil or CLP on the crinkle coated blades without harming the coating?

I would think that it would be OK. Before I started using Ren Wax I used to apply Corrosion-X to the my Swamp Rat blades, including the crinkle coating and it never caused any problem.

I oil my blades all the time. And it hasn't hurt them one bit. Although I might try this renwax that everyone's talking about.

I use car wax, occasionally MP-10, and tuf cloth. I was turned on to the tuf cloth by the folks over at the swamp. My Satin Battle Rat is spotless, and all i have used is the tuf cloth.

Oil shouldn't hurt the coating.

I sharpen my S6 and SS4 on oil stones and leave clean oil on the blades to keep them shiny. The coating is fine but my S6 isn't all that old really- just used pretty hard!

Over on BF.. there's a big thread on "ultimate lubricants".. they talk about Everything! wd-40, clp, militec-1, pretty much all of 'em i think.

i'm gonna have to peruse that thread again.. see if they talk about knife coatings in particular..

I used Hoppe's No.9 to clean one of my coated Ranger's, and then used gun oil on it. No problems so far.

I use Ren Wax. Before that I used RIG. If it’s a knife I’d be using to cut food, I’d use some of my Burt’s Beeswax lipbalm (Beeswax and peppermint oil) so that it’s food grade. Ren Wax and RIG are both petroleum products, and they can cause cancer if ingested.
