After a long break from photography I finally got the urge to dust off the gear and pick it up again. Borrowing a theme from Andy Wayne I decided to walk aroung my property and see what I could come up with. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/fence.jpg) I've got plenty of barbed wire surrounding my 10 acres. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/frontyear.jpg) The barbwire fence goes all the way around this pasture. I'm standing in the front 1/3 of it. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/schroom2.jpg) There are plenty of these growing around. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/schroom.jpg) And there are lots of these growing around as well. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/trumpet.jpg) A close up of our trumpet vine. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/weirdbug.jpg) An even closer inspection reveals a really weird looking bug. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/dragonfly.jpg) Another view of the trumpet vine with a dragonfly eyeballing me. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/flower.jpg) A flower that I missed when I mowed; it won't happen again. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/fernbranch.jpg) A fern growing on a dead branch in the backyard. ![[Linked Image from i241.photobucket.com]](http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/Gord.jpg) Our gord that serves as a home to our resident bird family. I forget the name of the bird but they eat their weight in bugs each day. [img] http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/jerrwhy/crapemyrtle.jpg[/img] A close up of one of our flowering Crape Myrtle trees. I know the peace you feel now that you've got some space and privacy. Great pictures, Jerry. BTW, that fern growing on the tree is Resurrection Fern. It will dry up and look all brown and dead during dry spells, but come back to life when it rains. Thanks again for the pictures. Andy would be proud.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Terrific pictures of a lovely piece of property Jerry. Happy to see you enjoying the yard you waited so patiently for. The Beast of the East is pretty photogenic as well

Nice pics Jerry. Thanks for sharing.
10 acres sounds nice to me. I always wanted to have about 10 - 20 acres.
.....but, not in Houston .
I was looking at trying to purchase about 10 acres west of Austin about 15 years ago. At the time, it would have stretched my budget. I was hoping to build on the acreage, but I wouldn't have been able to afford much more than a shack - by the time I added well, septic, utilities, access, etc.. So, I passed on a few pretty decent options. None of the lots were just perfect, but nice. ..... I would have probably spent everything I owned and much more trying to make the "lot" the way I wanted it....
Now those areas of Austin are being highly developed. So, good and bad.
Good, that I didn't build my dream home where I would currently be surrounded by developement - there aren't enough trees in west Austin to offer any privacy even with 10 acres. The areas I was looking at had very nice rolling hills, but mostly scrub type brush.... you would need about 1000 acres for privacy.
Bad..... I could probably sell the lot for about 10 times more than what I could have purchased it for at the time!
I still miss Austin, but now I keep dreaming about southern Colorado and similar. I am a little concerned that southern Colorado would be too cold for too long (????). Plus, it sounds like Colorado property costs are very high. Houston is cheap for housing.
I love mountains. But, just as much as I love mountains.... and maybe more, I love day to day gorgeous weather. Sunshine, highs around 80 - 90, lows around 55 - 70 - warm during the day and cool at night (not cold), and MUCH lower humidity (and mosquitos) than Houston.
But, there are a few catches. - I don't really care for desert type environment. - I don't like overly cold winters or long winters. I don't mind a little snow. Maybe a couple of times a year. But, I have usually had enough cold weather after a couple of months. - I still like "green" foliage.
New Mexico and Arizona are both mostly desert. Colorado seems potentially mostly cold weather.
.......still trying to figure this puzzle out.
