Mine does not have this feature. Perhaps yours is one of the "special edition" models.

Possibly a spiny starfish invasion? that would be my logical guess. That, or magic.

..spiny starfish only with many more arms...wondering if anyone else's SS4 has it or if mine has special collector's value due to its uniqueness. I'd also like to know what causes it. Thanks.
bld522,
My SS4 do not have the "spiny starfish".. however my SwampRat HRLM has 2 of them. I think it increases knife value by $2.00 per star.. which during happy hour, is worth 2 shooters.

I'm guessing it's where the coating dripped.

I'm pretty sure microscopic organisms are involved. Don't eat your SS4.

mine has the same little drips. I doubt it would add or subtract any value.
It could be drips or pockmarks in the steel where coating collects. I don't mind as it is going to wear away with use and it makes it so I can tell my SS4 in a pile of them.

A lot of the more recent Swamp Rat's have had those. Terry Newton and I looked like idiots one day closely peering at knives to spot which ones had them.

The star pattern spots really like to show up on the mud coating. It is hard to describe without seeing it first hand but you did a nice job!

Yeah he did!
I vote that bld522 be made the official describer of weird things found on Scrap Yard knives.

Yeah, I’ve spent some time looking close at my Rats looking at shapes in the coating. It’s like looking for designs in the clouds.

Right. But the shapes in the crinkle coat are a whole lot more detailed than the designs in the clouds. I've yet to see a cloud that resembles a spiny starfish.

But I've never seen an elephant in crinkle coating either, but I have in the clouds...

Personally I never really looked at my crinkle coat close enough to find shapes in it. Then again I've also got cable so there might be a correlation there.

nothing is really for certain.. only relativistic.
all we can do ..is correlate.
