Mine does not have this feature. Perhaps yours is one of the "special edition" models.

Possibly a spiny starfish invasion? that would be my logical guess. That, or magic.

..spiny starfish only with many more arms...wondering if anyone else's SS4 has it or if mine has special collector's value due to its uniqueness. I'd also like to know what causes it. Thanks. bld522, My SS4 do not have the "spiny starfish".. however my SwampRat HRLM has 2 of them. I think it increases knife value by $2.00 per star.. which during happy hour, is worth 2 shooters. I'm guessing it's where the coating dripped.

I'm pretty sure microscopic organisms are involved. Don't eat your SS4.

mine has the same little drips. I doubt it would add or subtract any value. It could be drips or pockmarks in the steel where coating collects. I don't mind as it is going to wear away with use and it makes it so I can tell my SS4 in a pile of them.

A lot of the more recent Swamp Rat's have had those. Terry Newton and I looked like idiots one day closely peering at knives to spot which ones had them.
The star pattern spots really like to show up on the mud coating. It is hard to describe without seeing it first hand but you did a nice job!

Paddling man, ..It is hard to describe without seeing it first hand but you did a nice job! Yeah he did! I vote that bld522 be made the official describer of weird things found on Scrap Yard knives. bld522: "..crooked, star-shaped patterns emanating from a central core. The patterning looks something like a spiny starfish only with many more arms."
